Mr. Chong studied engineering at Sydney Technical College in Australia on a Qantas Airways scholarship from 1973-1976. He qualified as an aircraft engineer in 1977.
He joined Singapore Airlines as a Senior Aircraft Engineer in 1979 and served postings in Dubai, Bahrain and Abu Dhabi before returning to Singapore in 1982.
In 1988, he was elected as a Member of Parliament for Sembawang GRC and is currently serving his fifth term as a Member of Parliament.
Mr Chong is currently the MP for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC and is the Chairman of the Government Parliamentary Committee (GPC) for National Development and the Environment.
He is also the Vice President Quality and Safety in SIA Engineering Company.
Mr. Chong’s other appointments include Chairman of the National Police Cadet Corps (NPCC) Council, President of the Singapore Institute of Aerospace Engineers and President of the Association of Aerospace Industries (Singapore).
